Structure & Density

01

Fine Surface Layers

Finer particles on the outer layers create a smooth surface for melamine lamination, veneer and decorative finishing.

02

Coarser Core Structure

Larger wood particles in the core provide panel thickness, internal strength and stable furniture processing performance.

03

Balanced Density Profile

Furniture-grade particleboard commonly falls around 600–750 kg/m³, depending on thickness and product specification.

APPLICATION GUIDE

Choose Particleboard by Application

Particleboard specifications should be matched to the final furniture structure, load requirement, interior environment and surface finish.

Particleboard used for furniture and cabinet carcasses

Furniture & Cabinet Carcasses

Recommended: 16–18 mm · Standard / Melamine Faced

Suitable for wardrobes, cabinet bodies, side panels, shelves and general residential furniture production.

Particleboard used for shelving and storage systems

Shelving & Storage Systems

Recommended: 16–25 mm · Balanced Density

Thicker panels can be selected for longer shelves or higher load requirements where bending resistance becomes more important.

Moisture resistant particleboard used for kitchen furniture

Kitchen & Utility Furniture

Recommended: 16–18 mm · MR Particleboard

Moisture resistant particleboard is commonly selected for humid interior areas such as kitchen cabinetry and utility furniture.

Melamine faced particleboard used for office furniture

Office & Commercial Furniture

Recommended: 16–25 mm · Melamine Faced

Decorative particleboard works well for desks, storage cabinets, workstations and other commercial furniture systems.

QUALITY FACTORS

What Affects Particleboard Quality?

Particleboard quality is influenced by more than thickness alone. Particle structure, density, bonding, moisture and surface consistency all affect how the board performs in furniture production.

01

Particle Size Distribution

Finer surface particles and a controlled core structure help balance surface smoothness, bonding and panel strength.

02

Density Profile

Consistent density through the panel supports dimensional stability, machining performance and reliable furniture assembly.

03

Internal Bonding

Strong internal bonding helps the panel resist separation and supports better screw holding and structural performance.

04

Surface Smoothness

A well-calibrated and sanded surface improves melamine lamination, veneer bonding and decorative finishing quality.

05

Thickness Tolerance

Stable thickness is important for cabinet assembly, edge banding, hardware fitting and automated furniture production.

06

Moisture Control

Controlled moisture helps reduce dimensional movement, warping risk and processing problems during storage and production.

07

Edge Integrity

Compact, consistent edges support cleaner cutting, stronger fastening and more reliable edge banding.

08

Emission Performance

Formaldehyde emission requirements should be matched to the target market, furniture application and applicable standards.

MANUFACTURING & QUALITY

Particleboard Manufacturing & Quality Control

Galaxi works with established particleboard manufacturing resources within Linyi and China’s wood-based panel supply network. Production specifications are coordinated according to panel thickness, density, board grade, emission requirements and final furniture application.

01

Raw Material Preparation

Wood raw materials are chipped and prepared to provide controlled particle size and cleaner furnish for board production.

02

Particle Drying & Screening

Particles are dried to the required moisture level and screened into finer surface particles and coarser core particles.

03

Resin Blending & Mat Forming

Resin and additives are blended with the particles before the furnish is formed into a controlled multi-layer mat.

04

Hot Pressing & Calibration

The mat is hot pressed, trimmed, cooled and sanded to reach the target thickness, density and surface condition.

05

Final Quality Inspection

Finished boards are checked for dimensions, thickness, surface quality, moisture and order-specific performance requirements.

FAQ

Particleboard Buying Questions

Practical answers to common questions about particleboard specifications, furniture processing and purchasing.

What particleboard density is suitable for furniture manufacturing?

Furniture-grade particleboard commonly falls around 600–750 kg/m³. The appropriate density depends on board thickness, furniture structure, screw holding requirements and machining conditions. Higher density is not automatically better; the density profile should match the final application.

Why can two 18 mm particleboard quotations be very different?

The same thickness does not mean the same board quality. Price can vary because of density, wood particle quality, resin content, internal bonding, surface calibration, emission grade, moisture resistance, decorative finish and packing requirements.

What is the difference between standard and moisture resistant particleboard?

Standard particleboard is intended mainly for dry interior conditions, while moisture resistant particleboard is designed for improved performance in humid indoor environments. MR boards typically use a modified resin system and are commonly selected for kitchens, utility furniture and similar applications.

Is moisture resistant particleboard waterproof?

No. Moisture resistant particleboard is not waterproof. It is designed to tolerate higher humidity and occasional moisture exposure better than standard particleboard, but prolonged water contact or outdoor exposure is not recommended.

How does particleboard perform for screws and furniture hardware?

Good-quality particleboard can provide reliable screw holding for normal furniture assembly. Performance depends on board density, core structure, thickness, screw type, insertion depth and distance from the panel edge. Confirmat screws and suitable furniture fasteners are commonly used.

Which emission grade should I specify for particleboard?

The required emission grade depends on the destination market and end-use requirement. Common specifications include E1, E0, ENF, CARB Phase 2 and EPA TSCA Title VI. The applicable requirement should be confirmed before production and quotation.

What information should I provide for a particleboard quotation?

Provide the panel size, thickness, density or grade, surface finish, emission requirement, application, quantity and destination port. For decorative particleboard, also include the required color, woodgrain or laminate specification. This allows the board configuration and export packing to be matched more accurately to the order.
