How many times can film faced plywood be reused?
There is no single reuse number for all film faced plywood. Reuse depends on core construction, film quality, bonding, edge protection and how the panels are stripped, cleaned and stored between concrete pours. For project planning, cost per use is often more useful than comparing the highest claimed reuse figure.
Which core should I choose for film faced plywood?
Choose the core according to the required balance between cost, weight, rigidity and reuse. Finger joint is mainly cost-focused, poplar is lightweight and practical, combi offers greater rigidity with competitive cost, while birch is better suited to higher-demand and higher-reuse applications.
Why can two 18 mm film faced plywood quotations be very different?
The same nominal thickness does not mean the same panel construction. Price can vary with core quality, film specification, bonding system, actual thickness control, pressing process, edge treatment and overall production grade. Comparing only the sheet price can therefore hide important differences in formwork performance.
Is black film faced plywood better than brown film faced plywood?
Not necessarily. Film color alone is not a reliable indication of plywood quality. Buyers should compare the film specification, surface adhesion, core construction, bonding and edge sealing rather than judging the panel only by whether the surface is black or brown.
What is Dynea film and when should I choose it?
Dynea film is a branded surfacing option used for film faced plywood. It is worth considering when a project or buyer requires a more clearly defined film specification and consistent surface performance. The final plywood performance still depends on the core, bonding and manufacturing quality of the panel.
Is 18 mm film faced plywood always the best choice for concrete formwork?
No. Although 18 mm is a common formwork thickness, the suitable panel depends on formwork design, support spacing, expected load, panel size, core construction and required reuse. The correct specification should be selected for the actual project rather than by thickness alone.
Why do film faced plywood edges swell or the layers delaminate?
Exposed or damaged edges can allow moisture to enter the plywood structure. Weak bonding, damaged film, prolonged water exposure and rough handling can further increase the risk of edge swelling or layer separation. Core quality, bonding and edge sealing therefore need to be considered together.
How can I extend the service life of film faced plywood on site?
Avoid damaging the film during stripping, remove concrete residue carefully, protect freshly cut edges, and keep panels flat and reasonably dry between uses. Good handling and storage cannot turn a low-grade panel into a high-grade one, but they can help preserve the performance of a properly specified formwork plywood.
